Thomson History

Thomson was first founded because it was along the Western Union Railroad (between stops 25 and 26).

It was the railroad that laid out and created the town in 1864, and Norman Judson built the first home in the area.

Known for its beauty then and now, early accounts of the town describe the area’s unparalleled beauty. Today, “The Great River Road” runs through Thomson, which takes visitors through the beautiful views that captured the hearts of the early settlers.

 

Thomson Community

Thomson is known for its hunting, fishing and recreational sports. The Thomson Causeway has a great camping site for families to enjoy the outdoors. Thomson is also known for some of the finest duck hunting, deer hunting and turkey hunting in the state of Illinois. There is a wide variety of fish on the mighty Mississippi River, including huge Catfish, Walleye, Bass, Northern Pike, Bluegills and the list goes on and on.
